Learn how to properly cleanse and recharge your Brass Feng Shui Cicada to maintain its traditional symbolism for youth and fertility.
Quick answer
Cleanse your Brass Feng Shui Cicada monthly with a soft dry cloth and recharge it under moonlight or with a gentle smudge to preserve its traditional energy.
Why regular care matters for brass cicadas
Brass is a durable material that develops a natural patina over time, which some people prefer for its antique look. However, the Feng Shui symbolism tied to youth and fertility may be better maintained with periodic cleansing to remove dust and stagnant energy. Unlike porous materials, brass does not absorb oils or moisture, so you can use simple dry methods without risk of damage.
Diagnosis & care steps
- Symptom: Cicada looks dull or dusty: Wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove surface dust. Avoid abrasive pads or household cleaners that can scratch the brass.
- Likely cause: Accumulated static dust or handling oils: If the cicada has been touched frequently, oils from your hands can dull the finish. Use a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with distilled water, then dry immediately. Stop here if the cicada is only dusty. Do not proceed to recharging if it still feels greasy.
- Corrective action: Recharge the cicada's energy: Place the cicada on a windowsill during a full moon night for 4–6 hours, or pass it through the smoke of a sage or palo santo smudge stick for 30 seconds. Avoid sunlight, which can cause uneven discoloration over time. After recharging, store the cicada in a clean, dry place. Repeat monthly or whenever you feel its energy has faded.
